I am enjoying Firefly ... have watched all of Disc 1. I was confused about "Serenity," only because I'd seen it advertised as a feature film release in the newspaper — until I read the piece in today's NY Times Arts & Leisure (Sunday) explaining what happened with the series. It's a full page feature, with pix of Joss Whedon and an interview — check it out.

I find the series has a lot of the witty-yet-deadpan dialogue that "Buffy" had ("Put the knife away — I just wanted you to scare him." "Pain is scary.") The "old West" feel combined with science fiction subject matter is reminiscent of the Sean Connery film "Outland," which was basically "High Noon" in space. Firefly also has touches of "The Wild Wild West," the old Robert Conrad '60s TV series which combined a Western setting with high technology.

Very interesting, I'm gonna stay with it.
