Chocolate Pumpkin Moffins
by Rosie, Diana
Despite her smarts and talent, Admiral Daala could not have reached her position without sponsorship from someone very high up. The Imperial world was male- and human-centric; she at least had the human part, but being female was a bigger deterrent toward position and promotion than being an alien.
It was well-known that Daala's sponsor was Wilhuff Tarkin, the Grand Moff who had been in charge of the first Death Star's construction. As powerful as Tarkin was, he was overworked and didn't care for himself properly. For one, he didn't trust anyone to care for his needs, and for another, he didn't respect anyone capable.
A student at Carida Academy had been coming up with brilliant and executable strategies, but there appeared to be no author the student did not in fact exist. Tarkin had two slicers working for several months to figure out the identity of this student, and to everyone's surprise, it was a woman. Normally, she would have been transferred to a far-off meteorological station as punishment, but Tarkin took interest in her and had her transferred to him.
Tarkin was pleasantly surprised to find her not only smart, but attractive, loyal, and a good cook she had been forced to work in Imperial military kitchens due to her gender. Daala soon found herself responsible for making sure Tarkin was eating properly.
But powerful men are often childish in their appetites. Tarkin did not like vegetables, especially squash. This was unfortunate, since hard-shelled squashes kept well for long periods of time, often making them the sole fresh vegetable aboard any space station or ship. Tarkin did enjoy desserts and sweet pastries, so Daala devised a way to "hide" pumpkin squash in a chocolate muffin.
Tarkin loved the creations and demanded them for breakfast every day, and for snacks at any time. He even served them to others, and they were so associated with him that his close colleague Admiral Motti referred to them as "moffins."
In a large bowl mix together the box cake mix and the pumpkin puree till thoroughly blended. Line two muffin pans with paper liners. Spoon batter into the liners to fill 2/3 full and make 24 muffins.
Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove cakes to a cooling rack and let cool completely.
Makes 24 cupcakes.
