At the end of the Lord of the Rings when Tolkien talks about the scouring of the Shire, they have a celebratory feast with the food the orcs and evil men hid in their strong houses while starving the poor hobbits. Merry and Pippin add the final touch with the pumpkin centerpiece -- which was their way of thumbing their noses at the orcs. But in recognition of the horrific experiences Sam and Frodo were forced to undergo, the effigy was deliberately MUCH less ugly than a real orc ... and that comment made them smile, then laugh out loud!
