When angels enter the fray of battle, do you suppose they don protective garb? Maybe they don't need to, but it likely makes those of us who are NOT immortal feel a bit less weird to fight alongside them. Or at least they understand that angels are not above being harmed in war.
The drawing was inspired by the closing ceremonies of the Torino Winter Olympic Games, where the Las Vegas-y upright wind-tunnels blowing air at 125 MPH lofted performers on a column of air, making them appear to fly and hover. It was very pretty! And the dove of peace is an eternal symbol of the Olympics, too. So, though angels do go to war, they hover down with the promise of peace.
